The Physicians Gave Up on the Duke’s Only Son – The Herbwoman They Scorned Stayed the Whole Night…
Chapter 2
The cabin materialized through the snow like a ghost. Marcus almost missed it. The driveway was unmarked, buried under a foot of fresh powder, and the structure itself seemed to blend into the treeline, its weathered timber walls dark against the storm. He had only been here once before, two days earlier, to pick up the key from the owner — a retired mining engineer named Harold Bishop, who had studied him with the quiet skepticism of a man who had seen too many city-dwellers underestimate the mountains.
“Storms don’t ask permission,” Harold had said. “Best to be ready.”
Marcus had nodded politely and driven away. Now, less than forty-eight hours later, he understood exactly what Harold meant.
He carried the mother inside first. The cabin was cold, the air sharp and still, the fireplace dark. He laid the dog on a pile of blankets near the hearth, then returned to the truck for the puppies. Seven trips. Seven small lives, each one wrapped in his jacket or pressed against his shirt.
