Navy SEAL Found His Dog Wandering in a Blizzard—And the Truth Was Heartbreaking
Chapter 2
Corinne Shaw stood in the hallway of her own house like a woman who had forgotten she lived there. She was in her mid-thirties, slim and fine-boned, chestnut hair falling neatly to her shoulders, face pale in the storm-lit doorway — open enough that Garrett had once believed he could always read her. Now it was tight with something like shock and dread. She wore a cream sweater and dark trousers, too composed for a reunion, too composed for grief. Her eyes found him, then slid past him toward the truck. And when she saw Nash through the windshield, her expression changed — not to relief. To alarm.
That was the moment Garrett understood, with the clean internal click of something locking into place, that whatever had happened here had not happened by accident.
“Corinne,” he said.
