He lifted the shepherd out of the back seat and carried him through the automatic doors, shedding snow across the tile. Behind the reception desk, a woman in her early forties looked up from her computer, and her expression changed in a heartbeat from routine to alarm. Dr. Lena Hartman moved around the desk with the economy of someone who had spent her life in emergencies. Chestnut hair pulled back in a low bun. Warm hazel eyes behind thin glasses.
