Mail-Order Bride Rejected For Being Poor But A Kind Rancher Saves Her And Falls For Her
Chapter 2
“I know we just met,” Samuel said, “but I can’t, in good conscience, leave you like this. There’s a boarding house down the road, or — if you’d prefer — my ranch has plenty of room. It might be more comfortable, and safer too. I have a spare room, my sister’s, when she visits. You’re welcome to it for as long as you need, until you figure out what to do next.”
Margaret hesitated, thinking of propriety, but the boarding house cost money she scarcely had, and Samuel’s open, honest face gave her a sense that he meant her no harm. There was something faintly worn in his own eyes too, as though he understood loneliness and loss himself.
“I don’t want to impose,” she said softly.
“It’s no imposition,” he said. “The ranch is quiet these days, and frankly, I could use the company of someone to talk to besides my foreman and the cattle.” He offered a small, disarming smile.
