His Baby Refused Every Bottle—Then the Maid Broke One Rule, and Three Days Later the Mob Boss Discovered Who Had Murdered His Wife

Chapter 3

Something shifted in Gabriel’s face.

Not softness.

But recognition.

He stood there for a long moment, looking at Noah still drinking quietly against Hannah’s chest, at the steady rhythm of the monitor, at the color slowly returning to his son’s cheeks.

Then he holstered the weapon.

“You saved his life,” he said.

It was not a question.

“I only did what—”

“No.”

His voice cut through her protest.

“You walked into a room you were forbidden to enter, ignored every rule I set, and did the one thing every expert in this house had failed to do.” He paused. “You fed a starving baby.”

Hannah did not know what to say.

So she said nothing.

Gabriel turned toward the door.

“You will stay in this wing tonight,” he said without looking back. “Tomorrow we will discuss your position in this house.”

He stopped at the threshold.

“And Ms. Brooks?”

“Yes?”

“You will never be a maid again.”
