Billionaire Mafia Boss Offers $500,000 Reward for Retired Police Dog That Sends His Son to Prison
Chapter 9
They drove through the night.
Arriving in the small Idaho town just after dawn. Jennifer met them at her house — her eyes red from crying. She showed Mike a shirt Emma had worn. Gave him details about the route she took home. Described the last place she was seen.
Mike listened carefully. Building a picture. Methodical. Patient.
When she was done, he knelt beside Shadow. Held the shirt to the dog’s nose.

Shadow sniffed the fabric once. Twice.
Then his ears went forward. His body tensed.
He pulled against the leash, nose to the ground, and started moving.
Mike followed.
Behind him, Jennifer Hayes watched them go — a retired cop and a twelve-year-old dog with arthritis and a scarred muzzle and amber eyes that had seen too much.
A dog worth half a million dollars.
A dog worth dying for.
A dog who had saved his partner’s life more times than either of them could count.
And who was about to do it again.
Mike smiled.
Some dogs never really retire.
They just wait for the next person who needs them.
